WAITING FOR NERDROTIC: FROM PRISON TO YOUTUBE, a biography written by Gary Buechler, is NOW AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER THROUGH RIPPASEND. But you might be new here or, at the very least, unfamiliar with the artist known lovingly to his massive fanbase as Nerdrotic. The godfather of the Fellowship. And, as someone who has met him and had the pleasure of talking to him many times, Gary is one of the kindest, most down-to-earth, genuine human beings you could ever meet. You hear it from the conversations he has with his fans. Recently, at a convention appearance, a fan was thanking Gary for how he’s spoken about bringing gratitude into your life. The fan told Gary that he had been miserable in his life, but after embracing gratitude, he told Gary that everything in his life had changed, with nothing being different. His changed perspective made him see things differently, and he was happy and grateful to Gary for the helpful message.

A Life Rooted in Nerd Culture

Gary Buechler used to have his own comic book shop where he would be immersed in nerd culture, something that he was always passionate about. There, he would connect directly with customers and discuss everything in pop culture from comics to toys to film and TV. He nurtured an environment where fans could connect and talk about the things they loved. It’s no surprise that with that background, Gary has been able to take that sense of community and expand it even wider with his online audience through his streams and in-person meet-ups. His main show would be the infamous Friday Night Tights with notable co-hosts HeelvsBabyface, Jeremy & Ryan from Geeks & Gamers, Shadversity, ¼ Black Garrett, show producer X-Ray Girl, and more! You can also see Gary on The Real BBC with HeelvsBabyface and MauLer. There is an almost daily Nerdrotic Nooner. And for you fans of the spookier side of life, Gary hosts Forbidden Frontier with ¼ Black Garrett and Adam Crigler, where they discuss everything from UFOs/UAPs to ghosts to the unexplainable that exists in our world.

Nerdrotic’s Road to Redemption: From Addiction to Sobriety

But before the comic shop, before the online shows, Gary had a lot to overcome and a big wake-up call. Born in San Diego, he lived in California most of his life. It was there that he struggled with drug addiction. He speaks quite honestly and openly about his past and the incarceration that led to his sobriety. He gained a newfound appreciation for his liberty and freedom after losing it completely while in jail. He had been high on meth and involved in a robbery at a home where the owners were actually inside, and things went wrong. He was arrested and sentenced to prison. Time behind bars was a strong motivator to get clean and turn his life around. It would be upon his release that he would open his comic store, Comic Outpost.

What to Expect in “Waiting for Nerdrotic”

WAITING FOR NERDROTIC is a written and graphic novel hybrid narrative telling the story of Gary’s life where there was a time he was sleeping under a bush in front of a Long John Silver’s in San Diego, but persevering through childhood trauma, family dysfunction, addiction, battling abusive teachers, psychopathic cellmates, and bureaucratic gatekeepers, all in the age of modern media, he was able to build a Fellowship for himself through his frank and based opinions on quality comics, TV shows, and films made by POTs – People of Talent. In an age of cancel culture and silencing voices, Nerdrotic’s authenticity and ability to share opinions felt by many too afraid to speak up, made him an international sensation, much to the shock and dismay of the studio system and their old media. New media was here to stay, and it was real AF. It was a guy who survived hell, beat his demons, and decided to share his passions and call out the bullshit that was killing the fandoms we all loved and held dearly.

Why Nerdrotic’s Story Resonates with Fans

Often comical and harrowing, this first book from Gary Buechler is the ultimate story of a second chance and what heights can be reached when you follow your passions without compromise. Gary is one of us, a fan of these characters and stories who defined generations through their escapism and creativity. When these properties were used as masks to implement propaganda and as vehicles to enforce social engineering, the fans didn’t know where their heroes had gone. They didn’t recognize these characters anymore, and worse, they saw their fandom, their sense of community through a connection in the arts, fading away. The media and studios doubled down that it was the audience who were wrong and that they were at fault for not enjoying the reimagining of their stories, with very clear agendas in place. However, when Gary speaks, it comes from a place of honesty. Whether he is discussing comics or addiction, his own trials and tribulations, or how this version of something fans have held dear is an insult to the fandom. It was this truthfulness and earnestness that has garnered him the loyal audience that he has, and it is why people tune in to hear what he has to say, because they know it comes from a real place.
