The series encourages not being afraid to ask questions or be different, and our story begins with protagonist Jon, who boldly embodies these qualities. His bullies at school call Jon “Question Boy,” and his inquisitive nature isolates him from his classmates and gets all the wrong types of attention from his teachers and parents. Jon is from the Gray World and the everyday monotony, routine, and dedication to all being the same is reflected in the very world around them that is devoid of colors. Instead, the Gray World is all black and white and shades of gray. Despite knowing better, despite his parents’ and teachers’ warnings, and his peers’ disapproval, Jon cannot curb his curious nature and wonders if asking questions and dreaming of daring to be different is so bad.
Jon dreams of a world full of colors, something he does not even have the words to describe but feels so close, so drawn to. His world is turned upside down when a chance encounter in the woods brings a brand-new friend into his life. His new friend is well-spoken, polite, and unlike any friend Jon has ever had or even seen! His new friend is Blue, and he is a color, blue, as you may have guessed and he is waiting for his friend in the Gray World, but they seem to have gone missing. Blue needs help finding them and, in return, promises to take Jon to visit his world. Just like in his dreams, Blue comes from the Color World, filled with colors and adventures, pirates, and a mighty Queen! Jon must help keep Blue’s secret and get him home before they both land in deep trouble.
